Havre's Nystrom among new MSU-N X-Country recruits

Montana State University-Northern head cross country coach Chad Spangler has had plenty of success with Havre Blue Ponies on his roster. And Spangler recently announced that that tradition will continue.

Spangler announced three new recruits to his women's cross country team, including Havre High senior Kaylee Nystrom. Nystrom recently finished in the Top 20 at the Class A state cross country meet, and was a three-year runner for the Blue Ponies. Nystrom's older sister also runs cross country for Northern.

Adding to the recruiting class will also be Rain Johnson and Chloe Overlie, both of Elko, Nevada.

"I'm really excited about each of these three," Spangler said. "They all have the speed to be competitive in their first year and they will fit very well with our returners. We struggled with pack time this past season, but I think this trio will really help with that."

In more Northern cross country news, three Skylights and one Light were recently named 2017 NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athletes for the 2017 season. Northern seniors Courtney Cota, McKenna Barkus and Breck Don all earned the honor for the women's team. Cota is a graphic design major, Don is a double-major in diesel technology and business administration and Barkus is a double major in health promotion and nursing.

Northern senior Riley Dennis represents the men's team. Dennis is majoring in agriculture operations technology.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
