  • Letter to the Editor - Article beyond the level of good taste

    Updated Feb 7, 2018

Editor, We would not deny the right of the press to report on an incident such as a Senate candidate being escorted off the premises of a school because of his failure to conform to a court order regarding the custody of minors. The facts surrounding the Dean’s candidacies rightly should also be considered fair game. As a local paper, however, you should know that simply not mentioning the names of the minors in question would in no way protect their identity or privacy. In an incredibly painful family situation, you have i...

  • Letter to the Editor - Article was sensationalism

    Updated Feb 7, 2018

Editor, Only the first two paragraphs of the Feb. 5, 2018, article which reported the lockdown at St. Jude’s were what I would consider “news-worthy.” The rest of the article was simply an attempt at sensationalism aimed at getting more people to read this article. In a small community such as this, it isn’t terribly difficult to figure out who the other party in the custody dispute is, but you felt the need to name them, along with allegations that have already been deemed unfounded. Dragging this family through the mud dur...

  • Letter to the Editor - Shame on the Havre Daily News

    Updated Feb 7, 2018

Editor, To all who were involved in the printing of the recent Dean article: How dare you involve yourselves in the custody battle and allow the news organization to be a puppet of James Dean’s manipulation tactics, and party to the slander of two individuals’ good names. Shame on you! I have spent my life working with children, and I was appalled that Havre Daily News would contribute to the damage of two girls’ emotional health by the printing of this article Yes, they will hear talk; yes, they will read this artic...

  • George Ferguson Column: There's nothing like Friday morning in the Metra

    George Ferguson|Updated Feb 7, 2018

For the likes of Havre High's Mick Chagnon and Chinook's Rebecca Stroh, Friday morning inside the Rimrock Auto Arena in Billings is going to be a morning unlike any they've ever had. Sure, both have probably been to the All-Class State Tournament many times. Stroh has certainly seen some glorious times from the stands, cheering on her highly-successful older brothers, and Chagnon has seen plenty of past Blue Pony glory, growing up idolizing Havre greats like Evan Hinebauch...

  • Meet the new Stroh on the block

    Chris Peterson|Updated Feb 7, 2018

Chinook's Rebecca Stroh has all the wrestling pedigree she needs Chinook has a strong wrestling tradition, but the legacy of great Sugarbeeters isn't the only thing Rebecca Stroh has to live up to. She also has to live up to her family name, which is like a who's who of Chinook wrestling. And if that wasn't enough pressure, Stroh also has to deal with the pressure and attention that comes from being a girl in a sport of mostly boys. However, when she takes the mat at the...
