Board member Gus Sharp, the board’s contact with the association putting on the rodeo for the...

  • George Ferguson Column: No debating Havre High's place in history

    George Ferguson|Updated Feb 19, 2014

The Havre High wrestling team sure does know how to put a stamp on an All-Class State wrestling tournament. But one thing the Blue Ponies, under head coach Scott Filius, don’t seem to know, is how to slow down. Havre racked up 294.5 points in winning its second straight Class A state title Saturday night in Billings, and in the process, tied its own record for most points scored in a Class A state tournament. Those numbers are staggering considering how good arch-rival S...

  • Area boys teams ready for postseason

    George Ferguson|Updated Feb 19, 2014

Regular season basketball is over for the majority of the prep teams in Montana, meaning the time for district basketball is now. And while state is ultimately the most important weekend of the season for most teams, those same teams hoping for a state title must first get out of districts and into divisionals. That is what the 10C Chester/J-I Hawks will attempt to do in Conrad, the 2B Harlem Wildcats will attempt to do in Malta, and what the 1B Rocky Boy Stars will attempt to...

  • Frontier Notebook: Frontier season reaches the big finish line

    George Ferguson|Updated Feb 19, 2014

It all comes down to this. The Frontier Conference has just one weekend of regular season basketball, and there’s plenty still to be decided. The Westminster women wrapped up their sixth straight Frontier regular season title last weekend, but the men’s side is no more clear than it was a month ago. Rocky Mountain College takes a one-game lead into the final weekend of the season, but the Battlin’ Bears finish with a difficult road trip to Havre and Great Falls. And it’s those...

  • Hi-Line girls teams gear up for a run

    George Ferguson|Updated Feb 19, 2014

It’s tournament. And when it comes to the Chester/J-I girls and the District 10C tournament, that usually spells doom for the rest of the conference. The Hawks are the four-time defending 10C champions in what will be their last 10C tournament, which runs Wednesday-Saturday in Conrad. C/J-I (16-2) will move to the 9C next season, but before the Hawks go, they have their sights set on one more 10C championship. C/J-I went unbeaten in conference play yet again and haven’t los...
