  • 3 rescued after avalanche levels Montana home

    MISSOULA (AP) — An avalanche roared into a residential neighborhood in the western Montana city of Missoula on Friday and destroyed a house, but three people were found alive amid the snow and wreckage, police said. The survivors were an elderly couple and an 8-year-old boy, police Sgt. Travis Welsh said. No one else had been reported missing. All three were taken to a hospital.   • BNSF train derails near Olney

    Derailment sends 45 empty coal cars off tracks OLNEY (AP) — A BNSF Railway train derailment in western Montana sent 45 empty coal cars off the tracks and closed a portion of U.S. Highway 93 near the town of Olney. BNSF spokesman Matthew Jones says no one was injured when the eastbound train went off the tracks at about 3 p.m. Saturday. Some of the derailed cars are on a bridge over the highway.     The Rocky Boy Stars saw their winning streak come to an end against Glasgow on Friday night. But Saturday night in Glasgow, the Stars' season came to a halt when they were beaten by the Choteau Bulldogs 63-58 in the Northern B consolation game. The Stars rallied from Friday night's semifinal loss to the Scottie by winning a thrilling 74-73 loser-out game against Conrad on Saturday morning.   • Central A Tournament: Havre girls capture third straight Central A title

    Another year, another Central A championship for the Havre High girls basketball team. On Saturday night in Belgrade, the Blue Ponies defeated the Browning Indians 51-30 to win the 2014 Central A championship and advance to the Class A state tournament. The Blue Ponies will face the No. 2 seed from the Northwest A in the first round of the state tournament, which runs March 13-15 in Great Falls.   • Central A Tournament: HHS boys fall to Belgrade in championship, still go to state

    The Havre Blue Ponies came up shirt in their bid for a Central A championship Saturday night in Belgrade. But the Blue Ponies are headed to the Class A state boys tournament for the first time in eight years. Havre lost 50-41 to Belgrade in the championship game, but because Browning finished third, the Ponies do not have to play in a challenge game to advance to state.   • Northern C: Box Elder wins divisional championship

    Make it 23-0 and a third championship for the Box Elder Bears. Friday night at the Four Seasons Arena, the Bears beat the Denton-Geyser-Stanford Bearcats 63-30 to claim the Northern C crown. The Bears were never threatened by the Bearscats, who also advanced to state as Highwood placed third and can't challenge on Saturday night.     The Rocky Boy Stars' chance at winning a Northern B Divisional championship ended Friday night at the hands of the Glasgow Scotties. Playing on their home floor 73-69. The Stars will try and stay alive, but would need to win two games Saturday to finish third, then hope Glasgow beats Malta in the championship in order to get a challenge game with the Mustangs.   • Argos surprise Lights in Frontier quarterfinal

    The Montana State University-Northern Lights don't lose home games very often. They don't lose in the Frontier Conference quarterfinals often either. And lately, the don't lose to the UGF Argos. But all three things happened Friday night as the No. 18 Lights fell to the Argos 64-54 at the Armory Gymnasium.
