    Chris Peterson|Updated Apr 27, 2018

  • A healthier Montana means a healthier workforce

    Updated Apr 27, 2018

We can’t have a competitive workforce without a healthy workforce. And a healthy workforce depends on the individual health of each of its citizens. Until recently, too many of our fellow Montanans lived each day knowing that access to health care was beyond their reach. They avoided regular checkups and screenings, and instead, were forced to the emergency room to access expensive, difficult to treat care. When you’re not healthy, it’s difficult to stay on the job and be a productive member of the workforce. Thank...

    Pam Burke|Updated Apr 27, 2018

You always knew that the road would be slick ahead, but you thought it wouldn’t happen for many miles. You thought maybe, when you got there, you’d spin out a bit or take out a reflector or dent a guardrail or some equivalent mishap. But you assumed you would drive away from the crisis relatively unscathed, maybe have to fill out an accident rep...

    Updated Apr 27, 2018

By Emily Mayer Congress had finalized draft regulations regarding its quotas for draftees to be sent to training to go fight the Great War. In an article on the front page of The Havre Plaindealer’s April 27, 1918 edition, stated the change was “so that men needed in agriculture or industry won’t be drafted from one district while workers in non-essentials are draft free in another.” The quota was based on the number of Class 1 draftees who met physical requirements and not the number of men who had signed up for the draft. W...

  • Hello God. It's me, Mara

    Updated Apr 27, 2018

You know, Lord, May Day is a public holiday that’s usually celebrated the first day of May. How enjoyable and entertaining. In our school we all “danced” around the Maypole. We especially liked the singing while we were running around a Maypole. Cake and punch followed, and that was fun, too. An interesting side note: The Mayday callsign was origina...

Out our way, we usually have fenced pastures and the stock stay together. But come Labor Day the land around Beaver Creek becomes open range and although herds still tend to stay together, there are now and then some mixing. Sadly, now and then some cattle and other stock don't need a...
