Box Elder Public Schools were closed today after a gun or guns were found in the area of the school. Hill County Sheriff Don Brostrom said the gun was found "somewhere in the area of the school." Rocky Boy Police officers, who patrol Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation, are looking into the matter, he said. John Kelleher|Updated Apr 28, 2016

About 250 second-graders from area schools missed out early this week on an opportunity to get small trees they can take home with them to plant. Snow forced the cancellation of the annual Arbor Day festivities in Pepin Park. But weather willing, the kids will get a chance again Monday when the TURF — Task Force for Urban Reforestation — Committee will pass out the small trees in jugs. The kids can plant the trees and watch them as they grow. Sara Sedlock, longtime TURF volunteer, said she sees trees around the city all the...

    Sondra Ashton|Updated Apr 28, 2016

At last, I have a working sink in the house. No more carting all food preparation items plus dishes before and after meals out to the outdoor sink on the patio. Running water meant I carried buckets from the well out by the stock tank and poured it into the water bucket on the wash stand (cold) and the copper boiler o...
