A crash between a westbound Amtrak train and a tractor on the eastern edge of Montana Friday morning killed the driver of the tractor, injured several Amtrak passengers and employees and delayed the trains running both westbound and eastbound on the Hi-Line. Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said in a statement Friday night that the crass occurred about 10:41 a.m. Friday at a railroad crossing east of Wolf Point. Sources report the driver of the John Deere sprayer that the train collided with at the crossing died as a result of...

Bullock said during a Thursday press conference that the eastern entrances to Glacier opening will depend on when the Blackfeet Nation of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation lifts its ban on non-essential travel. • Out Our Way: Holes in the fence - Revelation 22:14-16

    Updated May 29, 2020

Out our way, riding fence is part of the routine Charlie and I had when working on Tiger Ridge. As you may recall from earlier columns, now and then we found a gap where some of our herd could get out and cattle from a neighboring herd could get in. But the brand and ear tags identified to whom each cow belonged and we pushed ours back inside the fence, and those who belonged to the other guy back outside. Then we repaired the fence. In the old cowboy western movies — especially in the ’30s and ’40s — there always seemed...

  • Pastor's Corner: Celebrating the Spirit in a digital age

    Updated May 29, 2020

Throughout this period of social distancing and quarantining, many churches in Havre and around the country have experimented with new ways to connect. Churches started live-streaming their services on social media sites, amplifying worship in parking lots for congregants clustered in their cars, and meeting for prayer or Bible study through countless videoconferencing platforms. In one sense, this move for the church to “go virtual” is motivated by love for our neighbors, wanting to do what we can to help keep people hea...

  • Roping Religion: Choices matter - especially with children

    Updated May 29, 2020

Many of the ideas and scriptures for this article are from the devotional “God Wants You To Win!” by world champion calf roper Jeff Copenhaver. One day Jeff felt the Holy Spirit speak to his heart “some choices we make in life are better than others.” I am pretty sure most of us can identify with that statement. I remember as a teenager going hunting with my friends and getting some mud stuck in the barrel of my shotgun. A short time after that incident I went trap shooting and felt the gun kick a little bit more than us...

  • Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

    Updated May 29, 2020

You know, Lord, while living through this special memorial season this week, it is a season that we hold dear to our hearts, pondering on the precious memories of those who have departed. If our heart aches, it is more for us than for them. With each heartache, each memory, we may tell ourselves with determination, that this is the last, that here is the logical point for the past to grow quiet. But no known logic works on the worst of facts, when we think about the death of someone we have loved. But for right now, Lord, we...
