  • Pony tennis teams preparing as best they can

    Chris Peterson|Updated Mar 20, 2018

March 12, the Havre High tennis teams started their season. It just wasn't in the way the Blue Ponies were used to. The first day of Havre High's 2018 season, and, possibly many more like it, was spent on the gym floor inside Sunnyside School. Havre was inside because winter hasn't even come close to loosening its grip on Havre or the Hi-Line, and because of that, HHS head coach George Ferguson says, spring sports are likely to not have a normal season, at least for a while...

    Tim Leeds|Updated Mar 20, 2018

The general manager of Island Mountain Development Group said the collapse of the former Buttrey’s building in Harlem has solved one question for the development company, whether to keep the historic building and refurbish it to house new stores or to tear it down and build new. “With the collapse, it’s kind of decided,” Terry Brockie said this morning. Brockie said the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation-based development group has owned the building that collapsed Saturday, likely due to an accumulation of snow on its roof, f...

  • Letter to the Editor - Blue Pony girls a star in a long winters night

    Updated Mar 20, 2018

Editor, In early December, my wife and I decided to go to the first game of the season for the Havre High School basketball team. We had such a good time, we went back the next night to watch them play again. After the second game we were hooked. We watched a collection of young women play a very good brand of basketball. They not only were very talented but also played as a team that really enjoyed the game and playing together. They were feisty when they needed to be and they were tough when they had to be. They were good...

  • Students shouldn't have to take the lead on gun safety

    Updated Mar 20, 2018

I support all the students in Montana and across the country who are voicing their concerns about gun violence. The walkouts and March for Our Lives deserve our respect and recognition. We should be embarrassed that teenagers are showing the courage it takes to stand up to groups like the National Rifle Association and demand policies that prevent gun violence in our schools. We need to ask ourselves, how many innocent lives are lost before we do something meaningful? Have shootings at schools become normal, acceptable? When...

  • Kathleen Williams: the best choice for women's rights and reproductive health

    Updated Mar 20, 2018

In 2018, we are at a crossroads for women’s rights and reproductive health. Who we select in the election for the U.S. House will have immense consequences for women in Montana and across the country. We have been here before. Forty-six years ago this very month, I was serving my first term in the Montana House of Representatives. I was a 23 year-old political rookie — the only woman in the chamber — with a head full of issues affecting our beautiful state that I thought needed addressing. At the top of that list was women...
