  • View from the North 40: The real price of technology upkeep

    Pam Burke|Updated Jul 10, 2020

I just wanted to be a real adult, but it ended up like that Pleasure Island scene in Disney’s “Pinocchio” where our little, wooden, not-a-real-boy makes seemingly innocent, but morally delinquent, life choices and starts turning into a donkey. This week, my computer asked me — yet again — if I wanted to download the most recent version of my system, and normally — by which I mean every time since the first personal computer arrived in my home — I hit cancel or no or whateve...

  • Coronavirus forces Northstars to adjust schedule on the fly

    Aarron Thompson|Updated Jul 10, 2020

If there is anything the COVID-19 pandemic has taught people, it is that it slows down for nobody and nothing. COVID-19 killed off the 2020 spring sports season, has been a persistent pest for the summer season and even threatens the future of upcoming sports seasons, and the virus hit close to home for the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball club recently. Back in May, Havre head coach Patch Wirtzberger mentioned that due to COVID-19, their season could change at any...

  • George Ferguson Column: Looks like Choate and Hauck have my back, and all of Montana's

    George Ferguson|Updated Jul 10, 2020

With what’s gone on lately, I sometimes gotta ask myself … does anybody even want fall sports this year? I know it’s kind of a rhetorical question, because I know there are plenty of people out there who do. And yet, when I see the lack of action some people are taking when it comes to helping to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, I still find myself asking that question. Of course, I do know the answer for many, and that’s a resounding yes. I know all of the kids th...

  • Roping Religion: He is in your boat

    Updated Jul 10, 2020

Many of the ideas and scriptures for this article are from the devotional “God Wants You To Win!” by world champion calf roper Jeff Copenhaver. Matthew 8:23-27 Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed Him. 24Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” 26He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it...

  • Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

    Updated Jul 10, 2020

You now, Lord, each day that You give us is a “room of time.” We can use that time or we can abuse it, we can spend it or waste it, we can fill our time with recollections of past failures and moan all the “what ifs,” “if only,” “woe is me.” We can have our own pity party with just us as the honored guest, for who, pray tell, would want to come to such a party! Or, woo-hoo, we can fill our “room of time” with peace and happiness, joy and satisfaction. We can be about as glad or as sad as we choose to be, as this little vers...
