    Updated Aug 11, 2017

By Christy Suits and Connie Brown Independent Press, Forsyth Webster's dictionary defines adopt as: to legally take another's child and bring it up as one's own. Adoption is not at all unusual in blended families and customarily takes place when children are young and still living at home with their parents. The recent adoption of Cheyanne Dawn Hamilton-Stuart was anything but customary. Sam and Ann Stuart of Forsyth celebrated their 12th anniversary July 9 of this year. Aug....

  • Not so much an epic battle, but it's a war

    Pam Burke|Updated Aug 11, 2017

One of the struggles for those who train combat troops is to condition soldiers to run forward, attacking, when ambushed rather than retreat. Experts say fleeing causes chaos which feeds into the effectiveness of the ambush, while attacking forward provides the greatest chance of survival. The question here is whether that theory applies to the scenario in which a lone woman is in the bathroom, sitting (y'know), and then spies a giant spider lurking in the shadows a few feet a...

  • Hello God. It's me, Mara

    Updated Aug 11, 2017

It’s amazing, Lord, the different gifts folks have. Take for instance this story about time: A lady goes into her house; as she steps across the threshold she hears the clock strike once. She sets down her packages, does a variety of things, hears the clock strike once, again; she loads the washing machine, tidies up the laundry room, hears one more strike of the clock. She rushes through a few more chores, jots a note to a friend and hears the clock strike once. She starts the dishwasher, does a few more tasks, grabs her p...

  • Pastor's Corner - Tiber fishing shows God's manifest presence

    Updated Aug 11, 2017

Luke 5:4-11 When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fe...

    Updated Aug 11, 2017

Someone might try to steal that vehicle, but it doesn't happen very often. Most of us were raised better than that. Sadly, there are some folks who seem bent on undoing those lessons, common sense, and basic morals. One of the classic...
