    The Havre High boys and girls golf teams have only been practicing for three days. But the Blue Ponies got the 2014 high school golf season off to a roaring start. On Monday, Havre played the first 18 holes of the 36-hole Great Falls Invitational.     Editor: This past week has been very trying for the Montana State University-Northern community. Coach Mark Samson is a highly respected individual in the state of Montana. When he was told he had to resign or be fired, it cut deep into the many supporters of the MSU-Northern program.     Havre City Council meeting saw its biggest audience in a long time Monday night as community members showed up to voice concerns about the United Klans of America flyers that were distributed around town over the weekend. The flyers read “Neighborhood Watch: You can sleep well tonight knowing the UKA is awake!” A telephone number and website were listed at the bottom of the flyer and the UKA emblem stood at the top.     Lowell Jerry King, 73, of Havre passed away on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at his residence of natural causes. Cremation has taken place, and, at Jerry's request, no services will be held.     City Court Judge Virginia Seigel spoke again at Monday’s Havre City Council meeting to request at least a part-time employee to help get City Court up to speed. “I wanted to bring the historical aspect of the struggle for staffing and also to give some honor to my predecessors who fought the good fight,” Seigel said.     The federal agency that was looking at a potential land swap to open access to the Bullwhacker area in southern Blaine County said that swap is off the table.   • Charter has another blackout

    The Havre area experienced another blackout in Charter Communications services Monday evening. Jack Hardy, the senior manager of communications for Charter, said it was around 5 p.m. Monday technicians noticed there was an error in the system. They responded immediately and found that a piece of equipment had malfunctioned. They got it back up and running just before 9 p.m., Hardy said. The malfunction took out everything, Internet, cable and telephones. “The good news is they diagnosed it quickly and fixed it,” Hardy sai... Full story

  • Second suspect charged in pill heist

    A second person faces charges stemming from a pharmacy robbery that netted thousands of prescription painkillers. Ryan M. Greenough, born in 1983, was in the Hill County jail this morning on $25,000 bond for two counts of possession of drugs with intent to distribute and a state Probation and Parole hold for violating conditional release, with no bond on that charge.
