  • 100-year-old Masonic Temple changes hands

    John Paul Schmidt|Updated Sep 8, 2015

The owners of the Havre Historic Post Office have expanded their efforts to revitalize downtown Havre in buying the Masonic Temple across the street. Erica Farmer and Marc Whitacre sat in old green chairs on the fourth floor of the Masonic building and apprehensively said they were excited for the project and laughed. "I think the gist is we felt obligated in some way," Farmer said. "We're sort of dedicated to this downtown thing. I guess it's fair to say that we're a little...

  • Our View: Hi-Line darts and laurels

    Updated Sep 4, 2015

Darts: A court case is being held now concerning whether the present form of lethal injection is the best to use in Montana. There is something bizarre about such a debate. It seems best to us that the debate should be solved by simply eliminating the death penalty entirely in the state and coming up with a more effective punishment for people who have taken another’s life. The present form of killing convicted criminals is out of step with today’s thinking. No one seriously thinks it is a deterrent to crime. It is a long, dr...

    Pam Burke|Updated Sep 4, 2015

My dog and cat have entered into the next phase of our big, life-changing, house project with all the emotional balance and fortitude of your average neurotic, cross-species, counter-crosswise twins. The beginning of this adventure saw the cat happy that we were spending time up at the shop, but the dog angry because he wanted to be in the comfort of his home. It didn’t help that every time we put down a bed for the dog to lie on, the cat would strut across the floor, put one...

The two acres on Bullhook Drive where Stu and Carol McIntosh live is not so much a yard as it is a cornucopia bursting with vibrant produce. One need not look far to see the fruits of their labor. A dozen or so feet to the right of the couple's modern ranch house, is a thick patch of corn, with some stalks more than 6 feet tall. “When you are inside, they are so thick you can hardly get through,” said Carol, pushing aside waves of the gangly crop as she gingerly walked thr... Full story

    Chris Peterson|Updated Sep 4, 2015

Dane Warp's march to the state of Montana's career records for passing yards and touchdown passes has been in the works since his first start as a freshman back in 2012. But, he will be the first to tell you, he has had plenty of help along the way, and while he has put up spectacular numbers, he wouldn't have been able to do it with the people who catch the passes he throws. Warp, now a senior, is in his fourth season as the starting quarterback for the Havre High football...
