  • Hello God. It's me, Mara

    Updated Sep 8, 2017

You know, Lord, when we’re walking down the street we might notice a variety of facial appearances. It’s special when some folks actually smile; if they don’t, maybe we should “give” them one of ours. It doesn’t much matter if the sun is shining or even if there should be rain — weather doesn’t matter. When we’re in a good mood, it’s like we’re loving life — and then, suddenly, it’s like life’s loving us! Little incidents do occur. Overheard at the post office as one person checked their box; he turned to another chap and...

Florida may be about to face Hurricane Irma. North Korea is provoking its neighbors and the United states. When seeing disasters that have happened, are happening, and/or are the brink of happening it is only natural that people begin to wonder: Where is God in all of this? ome have decided that God could not be who He says He is because...

  • Out Our Way: Along the Covenant Trail with Goliath

    Updated Sep 8, 2017

Out our way, being a farmer or a rancher requires a good deal more than knowing about soil, seed, livestock and land management. The modern farmer/rancher now has to deal with machinery that is constantly in need of maintenance and repairs. That is why the modern farmer/rancher doesn't just read the "Farmer's Almanac" but also the various owner manuals that come with each machine. I recall working cows with Charlie on a fairly well known rancher's spread and us both being so...

He presents the piece "The Grand Entry" (acrylic, 24" X 30"). This is a scene that singles out four dancers entering an outdoor powwow. • Friday Night Lights: There's No Quit In This Pony

    Chris Peterson|Updated Sep 8, 2017

The start to the 2017 season has not gone as planned so far for the Havre Blue Ponies, but the good thing is, there is plenty of time to right the ship and if that happens, one of the driving forces behind any turnaround will certainly be Ivar Aageson. For Aageson, 2017 is his third year of playing varsity football and in that time, he's seen plenty of changes and more than his share of ups and downs. He was there when Havre started 1-2 in 2015, with blowout losses to...

  • Home Debut: Lights host powerful Diggers

    George Ferguson|Updated Sep 8, 2017

The Montana State University-Northern Lights took a lot of positives away from their 32-25, last-minute loss to Rocky Mountain College in their season-opener last Saturday. After all, the Lights took the lead twice in the fourth quarter and had a shot to beat the Battlin' Bears in their house in the final seconds of the game. But for Northern's home opener, the Lights have a much more formidable task ahead of them. On Saturday afternoon, Northern (0-1) kicks off its home...

  • Ponies eager to stop the Locomotives

    Chris Peterson|Updated Sep 8, 2017

No one associated with the Havre High football team is happy with its 0-2 start, which is why the Blue Ponies have been working so hard to turn things around, starting tonight, with a home game against Laurel. "Winning solves lots of problems," HHS head coach Ryan Gatch said. "It can cause some, too, but it would help our morale a lot. But you know, we are still really early in the season. There is still a lot that can happen and I think we are still just scratching the...

  • MSU-N Game Day Feature: A weapon not to be overlooked

    George Ferguson|Updated Sep 7, 2017

On the football field, weapons come in all shapes and sizes. And they come at all positions too. And that includes kickers. If you have a good kicker, a guy you know will go out there and score points for you, well, then you have a leg up on the competition. The Montana State University-Northern Lights know they have one of those. They have a guy who will go out and do his job when he's called upon. In the Frontier Conference, that's rare too. At the NAIA level, finding a kick...
