I’ve spent the past seven years serving as the top lawyer in the office and in that time, I’ve had the absolute joy of helping Montanans in every corner of our state. I've been in the trenches fighting for you, and I'm ready to put that experience to work as your next state auditor. My career has been dedicated to consumer protection, which is exactly why I love the...

  • Fighting for the interests of rural Montana

    Updated Oct 5, 2016

I serve as a commissioner in a county where nearly 50 percent of the land is federally owned. There are some Montana counties, such as Mineral and Sanders counties, where the federal government owns more than 80 percent of the lands. While we all value our public lands and how they afford us our unique way of life, the issues that rural counties face is that, because so much of our land is public, it’s left off the tax rolls. Every year we have to fight for Montana counties’ share of funds to offset the loss of these fun...

  • Letter to the Editor - Laurel is doing it right

    Updated Oct 5, 2016

Editor, As a kid, growing up in Laurel, Montana, I remember driving by the CHS Refinery. Often the smoke would blanket the highway and it would be difficult for one to see cleary. Not to mention the smell was horrid. The refinery was responsible for a large portion of air pollution in Yellowstone County, and it faced harsh criticism from environmentalists. Every Laurelite knew that it was impossible to even think about shutting down the refinery. It was and still is the largest source of tax revenue in the county. It was the...

  • The big night in Havre High's season has arrived

    Chris Peterson|Updated Oct 5, 2016

There is no denying that the 2016 season has gotten off to a good start for the Havre Blue Ponies. But despite winning five of its first six games, for all intents and purposes, the season for Havre starts Friday night against Belgrade. Of course, the goal of every high school football team in Montana is to play in November, because playing football in November means being in the playoffs and competing for state championships. There is little doubt that the Ponies have those...

  • Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Patrick Barnett, MSU-Northern Football

    George Ferguson|Updated Oct 5, 2016

Patrick Barnett is humble. He says he doesn't talk about himself much. Instead, he deflects attention and praise to his teammates. And much of that praise goes to his fellow defenders on the Montana State University-Northern Lights' football team. But make no mistake, the way Barnett plays and has played along the defensive line over the last few years, the praise he gets is more than deserved. Barnett, a 6-2, 265-pound defensive tackle for the Lights, has been a three-year...
