Smith and Schlotfeldt discussed vocations in the trades industry with Havre and Rocky Boy High School students Friday during National Construction Week. The two started...

"It's just really fun, it's a schoolwide thing," eighth-grader Mackenzie Kuhn said. "We can just all run and get splashed with color and make fun of each other for how stupid we look." The tradition, which dates back to the 1980s, is a fundraising event that helps provide teaching supplies and necessities to keep the school running,...

  • Join me in voting no on I 185

    Updated Oct 8, 2018

If you watch any television you can’t help seeing advertisements for and against I 185. It’s pretty confusing. I have decided to speak out against the initiate for several important reasons. Before explaining those I also want to affirm my view that we ought to be willing to help those who aren’t able to help themselves. Montanans have always been generous and caring about their neighbors. So why should we oppose this initiative? First, because it’s a self-serving proposal advanced by certain providers who want to bypass...

  • Northern Notebook: Northern receivers light it up

    Chris Peterson|Updated Oct 8, 2018

The Montana State University-Northern football team didn't come away with a win Saturday night at Blue Pony Stadium against Eastern Oregon, but there were still some positive signs of improvement for the Lights. One of the biggest came with the offense. Despite the fact that Northern lost the game by 34 points, the Lights put together their best offensive performance since the season-opening win over Mayville State. In the last four games against Frontier Conference...

    Chris Peterson|Updated Oct 8, 2018

The Havre High Cross Country Teams are in the closing stretch of their schedule and that stretch included the Helena 7-on-7 Preview Meet which took place last Thursday in Helena at the Bill Roberts Golf Course. The annual meet, which normally serves as a preview for the All-Class state meet, had a different feel this year, as state cross country is set to be in Missoula. • Blue Ponies trample the Cowgirls in the Corral

    Chris Peterson|Updated Oct 8, 2018

The Havre High volleyball team has aspirations of being good and part of that means beating up on teams you are supposed to and Saturday inside the HHS gymnasium, the Blue Ponies did just that. The Ponies welcomed Conrad to Havre, a team HHS swept earlier in the season. Yet, in that first matchup, the Ponies had to battle back to win each set. This time around, there was no such issue as Havre cruised to an easy win by the scores of 25-10, 25-11 and 25-13. The win improved...
