HELENA (AP) — The Montana Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the state Revenue Department in a dispute over how Bresnan Communications property is assessed for tax purposes. The decision increases the company's taxes from $1.7 million in 2009 to $7.3 million in 2010, a 329 percent increase. Bresnan is now owned by Charter Communications LLC. NorthWestern Energy Co. has finalized its purchase of gas production facilities in the Bear Paw Mountains from Devon Energy. The 900 gas wells are in Blaine, Hill and Chouteau counties. The purchase of the facilities will help stabilize natural gas prices for NorthWestern customers, said Bob Rowe, NorthWestern’s CEO. With the $70.2 million acquisition, NorthWestern will be able to supply 37 percent of its customers needs, he said.
