    Patrick Johnston|Updated Dec 1, 2023

Havre Public Works has posted a series of sample tax bills on its Facebook page in an effort to show how property taxes are used by the city, and give people an idea of what kind of resources their department has to address problems with roads in town. Havre Public Works Computer-Aided Drafting Technician Jamie Trueax, who made many of the posts, said people often look at their tax bill, see what looks like a very big number and assume Public Works has far more resources than they actually do, and the department is trying to...

  • Letter to the Editor - Thanks for all the help and support

    Updated Dec 1, 2023

Hello! My name is Austin Boyce. I am 17 years old, was born and raised in this wonderful Havre community and I started playing hockey with Havre Youth Hockey when I was 3. Over the years I have developed a real passion for the game, which I can attribute largely to my dad and his love of hockey and I look forward to seeing where God leads me with it in the future. Last June, I was invited to play on an U18 Prep team located out of Alexandria, Minnesota, for the 2023-2024 season. With the encouragement from my parents to...

  • Looking out my Backdoor: I don't know

    Sondra Ashton|Updated Dec 1, 2023

I don’t. Truly, I don’t know. Life is so much more interesting when I don’t know. When I “know,” I limit myself to where it is difficult for new and different information to filter into my brain. Hey, because I already know! A closed door. Right? Take something simple, like tortillas. What is there not to know about tortillas? I feel pretty puffed up that I can make decent corn tortillas. I seldom make flour tortillas because they always come out looking like amoebas....

  • Out Our Way: Who is More than What

    Updated Dec 1, 2023

Luke 9:48 - 'Whoever is least among you shall be the greatest' Out our way, we sometimes mix with a few celebrities - and while some are stuck up snobs, most seem like decent folk who just want to be left alone. The snobs usually get taken down a notch because in Montana who you are is more important than "what" you are. A friend who was from the Big Sky area told me of a time a big Hollywood type came into a local restaurant over that way. She decided to be a jerk because...

  • Pastor's Corner: Do we need God in our lives?

    Updated Dec 1, 2023

Well, here we are at the beginning of Advent - AGAIN. It seems like it happens every year about this time. How many times do we have to remember Jesus' birth before we can stop celebrating Advent every year and just go right into Christmas. I wonder what the value of the season Advent is. I have asked myself this question a number of times over the years and it is only after visiting that question over and over again that I am beginning to get a bit of an understanding of the...

  • Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

    Updated Dec 1, 2023

You know, Lord, it was interesting reading a blurb about doing our role, encouraged by 1 Peter 4:10 where it says, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace." It unveiled how two little girls wanted leading roles in a play, but they ended up being flowers, which meant they did vital but not-so-high-profile work but were excited for their friends and enjoyed cheering them on, also sharing in their excitement....

  • Grief Poem - Remembering Dear Ones

    Updated Dec 1, 2023

Remembering folks in Holidays, seems good to do just that! Remembering guys in our family who wore a special hat! December is a special time - though it can be quite cold. Our Mamma dressed us in warm coats when we weren't very old. But now many dear ones have left, they flew off straight to YOU! Just thinking back of special days, some days we feel quite blue. There's Birthdays by the dozens, Lord, 'bout half of them are kin! To 'reach' those who remain with us, just where do...

  • From The Fringe....Griz, Cats in line for a very special month

    George Ferguson|Updated Dec 1, 2023

The dust has settled on what was an epic buildup to the 2023 Brawl of the Wild. But, for the time, possibly ever, the buildup for another Cat-Griz game in the same calendar year is starting. And make no mistake, a rematch in Missoula is highly possible. If that happens, all that will be at stake is oh, just a trip to the FCS national championship game. Really, can you imagine a Cat-Griz game bigger than that? To get there though, the No. 2 Griz and No. 6 Bobcats, both fresh...
