    BILLINGS (AP) — Former state Judge Susan Watters has been sworn in as Montana's first female U.S. District Court judge. U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy swore in the 55-year-old Billings native in a Thursday ceremony at the federal courthouse attended by several dozen friends, colleagues and family members. Watters worked in private practice and as a prosecutor before becoming a state judge 15 years ago.   • Probation and $40,000 restitution imposed on assault

    A Havre man was put on probation and ordered to pay more than $40,000 in restitution for an assault that sent another man to the hospital for reconstructive surgery. Kohl Jolen Keto, born in 1993, previously pleaded guilty in a plea agreement in state District Court in Havre to a felony charge of aggravated assault.     U. S. Sen. Max Baucus will step down from his seat to become ambassador to China. Baucus’ long and distinguished career in the Senate will serve him well in China.     The head of United Way in Hill County said Wednesday that money is coming in to help fund agencies in the county, but with two weeks to go in the fundraising campaign, the organization is still $30,000 short of its goal.
