Bear Paw hosts junior ski races Sunday

Bear Paw Ski Bowl received about a foot and a half of new snow this week, hill manager Dave Martens said Thursday.

Martens said the 18-inch snowfall was just in time for the beginning of the ski area's spring season and the first of its ski race weekends.

"This weekend we start our spring skiing policy of everyone in a bikini skis free," Martens said.

The Snowdance Ski Association will hold its annual North-central Montana Junior Alpine Ski Championships Sunday. The competition is open to skiers junior-high age and younger.

The chairlift to the top of the mountain is scheduled to run from 10:30 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Lift tickets this weekend, for those fully clothed, will be $15. Children 8 and under and adults 80 and over ski free.

The Bear Paw Ski Hill is located 29 miles south of Havre on Black Mountain. Volunteers with the Eagle Creek Ski Patrol provide emergency services on the hill.
