Local artist featured at juried exhibit

Three artistic works by MSU-Northern associate professor Joel Soiseth are on display at the 23rd annual Southeastern Montana Juried Exhibition at the Custer County Art Center in Miles City.

The exhibition runs from Feb. 3 through March 18.

One of his works was also chosen to be part of a traveling exhibition that will tour eastern Montana for the rest of this year.

Soiseth does paintings and drawings of a surrealistic nature, "a combination of things put together in strange or unusual juxtapositions," he said. An oil painting was chosen for the traveling exhibit.

Robert Knight, director of the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings, made selections for the juried exhibition. "It's always nice to get into a juried show," Soiseth said. His work has been exhibited in a variety of locations

since the late 1970s, he said.

Soiseth, who has been with the university for 14 years, instructs in the graphic design area of the College of Art and Sciences.
