ALENE WALEN, Obituary

Alene Ritchie Walen, 89, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, of natural causes at a Havre care center.

Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holland and Bonine Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday 10 a.m. at the St. Jude Catholic Church. Father Grosch will officiate.

Alene was born July 15, 1912 in Havre to Chester B. and Jean Seeley. She attended schools in Havre.

Alene married O.R. Walen, Jr. on Jan. 27, 1930, in Havre. They had three daughters and two sons. They moved the family to the homestead farm southeast of Havre in 1946 and lived there 54 years.

They wintered in Mesa, Ariz., following Bob's retirement from the railroad in 1973. They took many trips while working in Arizona.

She worked at Pattersons and J.C. Penney. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters, IGA, home demonstration club, an election volunteer and Happy Hi-Liners. She also did crafts, played darts and shuffleboard. She participated in water exercises with other retirees.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Wilbur Seeley; sister, Marguerite Meyers; daughters, Sharon Haugen and Jacquelyn Williams; grandson, Steve Allison; and great-grandson, Chad Haugen.

Survivors are her sisters, Florence Seward of Seattle, and Helen Lamey of Billings; daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Allison of Mesa, Ariz.; sons, C.B. "Bud" Walen of Havre and Bob Walen of Billings and Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Services and memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
