Currie adds four new recruits to team

The busy offseason continues for the Montana State University-Northern Lights football program as head coach Walt Currie announced the signing of four new players.

Garrett Lund, a 5-foot-9 outside linebacker from Scobey High School, is one of three Montana players Currie added to his squad. Lund was named to the first team all-conference as a defensive end and was an all-conference guard. He was also named to the Treasure State team as an alternate.

"Garrett has the quickness and intensity to be a good outside linebacker for us," Currie said.

Andrew Leichtnam of Hot Springs High School will also add a presence to the line for the Lights. Leichtnam is a 6-foot-1, 250-pound linebacker/defensive lineman. Leichtnam was named to the first team all-conference for football and won the state championship for wrestling at heavyweight.

"Andrew has the size, strength and ability to be an excellent Frontier Conference lineman and is also a great student," Currie said.

The third Montana signee for Currie is Gus Secora of Three Forks High School. Secora is a defensive end who stands 6 feet 2 and weighs 225 pounds. Secora was named to the all-state team as a defensive/offensive tackle and was also named to the Class B all-star game.

"Gus has the potential to be an outstanding college football player," Currie said.

Also signing for the Lights is Mitch Wilkins of Campbell County High School in Wyoming. Wilkins is a 5-foot-8, 168-pound quarterback. In Wyoming, Wilkins was named the the first team all-state as quarterback and was named to the Super 25 All-State Team. He was also his team captain.

"Mitch is a real winner and he should have a stellar career at MSU-Northern," Currie said.
