Havre PRIDE is planning for the next city cleanup

The Havre PRIDE committee of the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a communitywide effort on April 27 to clean up the streets of Havre.

Local residents, as well as members of the business community, are being asked to join together to pick up and collect street trash.

The scheduled cleanup time is between 8:30 a.m. and noon.

Organizers would like to remind residents that, according to city and state law, it is illegal to litter or dump waste.

A Havre city ordinance states that it is unlawful for a person to "throw or deposit wastepaper, bottles, beverage containers, hay, waste, clothing, hats, boxes or other coarse or inflammable material or rubbish in any of the streets or alleys, or upon any public grounds in the city."

State law says no one may dispose of garbage, dead animals or other debris or refuse on any highway, road, street, alley or on public property, or within 200 yards of any highway, road, street, alley or public property.

A person found guilty of littering can be fined up to $100 and sentenced to up to 30 days in the county jail.
