JOHN OLEARY, Obituary

John J. O'Leary, 79, retired railroad employee, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, of natural causes at a Havre care center.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial is to follow at the Highland Cemetery. A fellowship is to follow at the Vets Club.

John was born on June 10, 1922, to Thomas and Nellie (Degendorfer) O'Leary at Collis, Minn. In 1934, the O'Leary family moved to Savoy. He attended school in Savoy. In 1936, they moved to Harlem. In 1943, John joined the Seabees, a part of the U.S. Navy. John served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1947, he went to work for the Great Northern Railroad in Havre and retired in 1983. In 1947, John married Elinora Cox in Chinook.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting pool, and playing horseshoes. He liked being outdoors and camping.

His parents, five sisters and five brothers preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Elinora of Havre; sons, Richard and Jay O'Leary of Havre and Robert O'Leary of North Bend, Wash.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Memorials in John's honor may be made to Havre Day Activity Center, Box 1847, Havre, MT 59501

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
