The good works of Mayor Rice

Our view

Under the guidance of Mayor Bob Rice, the city is taking steps to develop a skateboard park for Havre youngsters.

The mayor recently appointed City Council member Woody Woodwick and Havre parks and recreation director Dave Wilson to a fact-finding committee. The two will meet with the Havre Skateboarders Association to determine the best location and design for a skateboard park. So at the direction of the mayor, city people will be meeting with the kids who will actually use the park.

Several local groups have already dedicated money to the project, but a lot more will be needed. The cost estimate for the park is $75,000.

But we have the feeling that this project will get done despite that large obstacle.

Why? Because Mayor Rice is committed to it, and he's shown on a consistent basis since he took office early this year that he does what he says he's going to do. During his campaign, he said he would work to get the park built. He's wasted no time taking the first concrete steps to making it a reality.

Rice has brought tremendous energy and dedication to the job. In his short time in office, he's made his office and the workings of the city more accessible to the average citizen. He's using his office to recognize the good works of others. He's a vocal advocate for pride in our city.

And now he's taking on the skateboard park.

Good will come from his efforts. We're all better off because of his leadership.
