CLARA WISE, Obituary

HINGHAM Clara Marie Wise, 85, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at a Conrad nursing facility.

Memorial services were scheduled for 3 p.m. today at the Hingham Lutheran Church. Private burial of ashes was to take place prior to the memorial services with graveside prayers at Highland Cemetery in Havre.

Clara was born May 29, 1916, at Hingham to Steve and Dora (Erdman) Welsh. She grew up at Hingham and received her education there. She graduated from Hingham High School in 1935.

Clara married Lyle R. Wise on Nov. 24, 1938, in Hingham. They lived and farmed north of Gildford in the years that followed. They moved to Hingham in 1967 and retired from farming in 1976. During their retirement years they wintered in California and Arizona.

Clara received her baptism and confirmation at the Hingham Lutheran Parish. She remained active in the church and the Lutheran Ladies Aid throughout her adult life. She also was a loyal member of the Democratic Party and the Havre Sons of Norway.

Clara loved to entertain friends at her home and was a good cook and hostess. She also enjoyed gardening and embroidery. She was an amateur pianist and enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and whist. Just for the fun of it, she collected bells.

Clara and Lyle did a lot of traveling throughout their 56 years together. Although they never had children of their own, they were caring partners and loyal friends to their nephews and nieces.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle R. Wise in 1994; parents; sister, Doris Moss; brothers, Walter and Clarence Welsh; three nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her sister, Alyce Woolway of Bakersfield, Calif.; brothers, Orville "Swede" Welsh of Havre and Chet Welsh of Hingham; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Special Care Unit, remodeling project, at Pondera Medical Center in Conrad.
