Chinook senior Kelly Acra showed her determination to place at the Class B State Volleyball Tournament last weekend in Missoula, playing through pain with a sprained ankle Friday.

Acra landed on the foot of a Choteau opponent late in the match, but came back and finished the game, and also played in the next match with Troy. The loss to Troy placed Chinook fourth at the tournament.

Despite the pain, Acra played well, leading the Beeters with five kills in the Troy match. Acra also led with three blocks in the Malta game.

For her efforts, Acra was named to the second team all-tournament team. Acra joins teammate Kelsie Whitney as representatives of Chinook on the Class B all-star team at the 2002 ABC All-Star Volleyball tournament at Montana State University-Northern Friday.

Senior setter Kelsie Whitney capped off her volleyball career at Chinook High School last weekend with three honors.

In addition to guiding her team to a fourth-place finish at the state tournament, Whitney was named to the Class B All-Tournament Team as an honorable mention and was selected to play in the 2002 ABC All-Star Volleyball Tournament in Havre Friday.

In loser-out action last Friday, Whitney led the Beeters with 24 digs and 36 assists. Whitney's tough play continued as Chinook defeated Choteau, the top seed from the North/East division, also in loser-out action Friday. Whitney led with 31 of the team's 34 total assists in the match. In the fourth-place game versus Troy, Whitney led with 24 of 28 team assists.

"Just playing Friday night was a big accomplishment for us," Whitney said Sunday. "We were all really proud with how we did."
