MATTHEW DONEY, Obituary

HAYS Matthew Lester Doney, 70, a Korean War veteran, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at a Great Falls hospital of an aneurysm.

Wake and rosary services will be held today at 7 p.m. in the St. Paul's Mission recreation center.

Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday in the St. Paul's

recreation center with burial following in the Zortman Cemetery.

Matthew was born at Slippery Ann near Zortman to Thomas and Agnes (Dechew) Doney on March 10, 1932. Later the family moved to Zortman where he attended school at the Zortman Elementary School through the eighth grade, then attended St. Paul's Mission High School in Hays for the next three years.

Matthew married Darlin "Pana" Barrows in June 1953, they later divorced. They had 10 children. Also born to him were other children. He married Margaret Ann Murray on June 7, 1999, in Havre.

Matthew worked on ranches and for the BIA roads department at Fort Belknap most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, baseball, listening to fiddle music, and just recently started singing.

Matthew was preceded in death by Wallace, Matthew, Tommy and Lester Doney; and his parents, Tom and Agnes Doney.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ann Doney of Chinook; sons, Mark Doney and Terry Doney, both of Hays; daughters, Carletta Benson of Lodge Pole, Cheryl Werk and Maria Doney, both of Hays, Evie Doney of Great Falls, and Charlotte Doney and Lona Boushie, both of Hays; sisters, Theresa Erickson and Katherine Mart, both of Great Falls, Martha Green of Everett, Wash., Penny Doney of Rapid City, S.D., Myrna Cochran of Fort Belknap, Ramona Champayne of Havre; brothers, Steve Doney of Zortman, Charles Doney of Havre, Alvin Doney of Fort Belknap, Cree Doney of Hays; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.
