Northern to host ABC All-Star Volleyball Tournament

Montana State University-Northern is once again hosting the annual ABC All-Star volleyball tournament for high school seniors in Montana.

The tournament begins Friday at 3 p.m. and will feature this year's Gatorade Player of the Year, Michele VanDyke from Chester. VanDyke will represent the Class C squad along with teammate Katie Engstrom.

Representing the Class A team from Havre are Amy Ranes, Jayla McPherson and Julie Wagner. Kelsie Whitney and Kelly Acra will represent Chinook for the Class B team.

Tournament organizer, Lisa Handley said she expects this tournament to be one of the best ever.

"The athletes are amazing this year," she said.

The Class A team has won the tournament the last two years and will open the competition Friday at 3 p.m. against the Class B team. Following at 5 p.m., the Class C team will take on the Class B team with the Class A team and Class C team to wrap up the tournament at 7 p.m.

A Most Valuable Player Award will be handed out at the end of the tournament along with a setter award and a defensive specialist award. The first- and second-place teams will also receive medals.
