Havre PeeWee hockey team takes third at state

Wrapping up a very successful season, the Havre Syntech Ice Hawks PeeWee hockey team finished third at the state tournament in Havre.

Miles City won the tournament with Bozeman taking second. Following Havre in fourth place was Butte. Billings finished in fifth place, Gillette in sixth and Missoula in seventh. Gallatin Valley failed to show up for the state tournament, forfeitting all games to finish in eighth place.

Miles City 3, Billings 0

Opening the state tournament in Havre, the Miles City Generals shut out the Billings Bulls, 3-0.

Miles City goals were scored by Laramie Davies, assisted by Tab Fleming, Davies, unassisted, and Jase Sanderson, assisted by Davies.

Ian Frank saved 13 shots as goalie for Billings, with Josh Anderson saving 16 shots for Miles City.

Havre 10, Missoula 0

The home team Syntech Ice Hawks played in the second game, earning a shut out, 10-0, over the Missoula Bruins.

Troy Williams started off Havre's scoring spree with a goal, assisted by Tyler Boyce, at the 9:35 mark in the first period. Boyce followed with the first of his two goals, assisted by Michael Erickson. Erickson, who finished the game with four goals, scored back-to-back unassisted goals.

Williams added his second goal of the game next with Morelli and Matt Hartman combining on the assist. Boyce added his second goal with Chase Hanson on the assist. Erickson followed with his third goal, Boyce added his second assist. Willy Schilling and Chase Hanson each added unassisted goals with Erickson and Chase Hanson combining for the final Havre score.

Goalie David Zentmire had 15 saves for Havre with Missoula's Aaron Dehart stopping 28 shots.

The Ice Hawks outshot Missoula 38-15.

Gillette 3, Bozeman 2

In the third game of the tournament, Gillette defeated the Bozeman Stingers 3-2.

Gillette goals were scored by Eric Meier, assisted by Taylor Jones, and Drew Konetzki, unassisted.

Bozeman's goals were scored by Michael Protz, assisted by Jarad Dick, Eddy Prugh, assisted by Ryan Langley, and Ryan Langley, unassisted.

Casey Kruse stopped 19 saves in the net for Gillette and Trevor Williams saved 23 for Bozeman.

Butte 2, Billings 1

The fourth game of the tournament ended with Butte edging out Billings 2-1.

Justin Bristol scored both goals for Butte, with both assists going to Everly Colt and Shane Strozzi.

Billings' lone goal was scored by John Bolin and assisted by John Dauenhauer.

Goalie Spencer Stilwell blocked 27 shots for Butte with Ian Frank saving 17 shots for Billings.

Havre 1, Gillette 0

Game five featured the Havre Syntech Ice Hawks and Gillette. The Ice Hawks narrowly defeated Gillette, 1-0. Erickson scored the lone goal of the game with Linquist and Roe combining on the assist.

In a game where every shot counted, Zentmire stopped 22 shots as goalie. Gillette's goalie, Casey Kruse, had 20 saves. Havre had 21 total shots in the game and Gillette had 22.

Bozeman 12, Missoula 0

The tournament continued with Bozeman taking on Missoula. Bozeman cruised to an easy win 12-0.

Marcus Lenhart scored Bozeman's first goal, with Kyle Smithheisler providing the assist. Jordan Schrader followed with the first of his three goals. Jarod Dick and Taylor Devine assisted the Schrader goal. Ryan Langley and Devine each followed with unassisted goals. Devine and Dick combined for the next score for Bozeman, the fifth of the game.

Langley scored the next two goals, both unassisted, to earn a hat trick for the game. Devine became the second Bozeman player to earn a hat trick, scoring the next two goals, both unassisted. Dick and Devine combined for the following goal, Dick's first in the game.

Schrader scored the final two goals for Bozeman, also earning a hat trick for him. His first goal was assisted by Michael Protz and his second was unassisted.

Missoula goalie Danny Skilling had 14 saves, while Bozeman's goalie, Dusty Batters, had eight.

Bozeman outshot Missoula 26-8 in the win.

Butte 4, Miles City 4

Game seven between the Butte Blues and Miles City Generals ended in a 4-4 tie.

Alex Downey scored two goals for Butte, one assisted by Craig Becker, the other by Justin Bristol. Colt Everly scored Butte's second goal, with Bristol dishing out the

assist. Bristol scored the final goal for the Blues, which was unassisted.

Laramie Davies scored two goals in the tie for Miles City. Davies' first goal was unassisted, while Chance Krausz and Damian Conklin combined for the assist on the last goal. Will Riggs scored the General's second goal, with Krausz and Jordan Bryant combining for the assist. Conklin and Davies combined for the third score of the game.

Butte's Spencer Stillwell had 10 saves on the game with Josh Anderson saving 20 shots for Miles City.

Gillette 11, Missoula 2

Gillette cruised past Missoula, 11-2, in game eight of the tournament.

Tyler Jones scored five goals, all unassisted, to lead Gillette. Tyler Silver scored the second goal for Gillette with Drew Konetzki having the assist. Tanner Thorfinnson scored an unassisted goal for the third score of the game. Jones followed with three consecutive goals.

Konetzki pushed home Gillette's seventh goal, which was unassisted. Tyler Davidson and Landon Locovetto combined for the eighth score. Konetzki and Jones followed with one goal each. Eric Meier scored the final goal for Gillette with Locovetto adding the assist.

Casey Kruse had 11 saves at the net for Gillette with Missoula's Danny Skilling saving 27 shots.

Bozeman 2, Havre 1

The Havre Syntech Ice Hawks were back on the ice for game nine, this time falling to Bozeman 2-1.

The game was scoreless until the 2:05 mark in the first period when Bozeman's Taylor Devine and Jarad Dick combined for the score.

Havre's lone score came in the second period at the 9:37 mark with Erickson and Roe combining for the goal.

Bozeman scored again at the 12:01 mark in the third period, with Dick driving home an unassisted goal.

Zentmire had 25 saves as goalie for Havre with Bozeman's Dusty Prathers saving 30 shots.

Havre outshot Bozeman 31-26.

Billings 2, Gillette 1 (5th and 6th)

Skating for fifth and sixth places, the Billings Bulls and Gillette faced off. Billings came away with a 2-1 win to finish in fifth place.

Mark Newpower scored both goals for Billings with John Bolin assisting the first score and Bolin and John Dauenhauer combining on the second score.

Drew Konetzi scored the only goal for Gillette with Tanner Thorfinnson and Tyler Silver combining on the assist.

Ian Frank saved 24 shots for Billings and Casey Kruse saved 12 shots for Gillette.

Most Valuable Player for the game for the Gillette team was Drew Konetski. Kruse was honored with the Iron Man award. Billings honored Newpower with the MVP and Frank with the Iron Man award.

Havre 5, Butte 2 (3rd and 4th)

In the third place game, the Havre Ice Hawks came back to beat the Butte Blues 5-2.

Butte scored first in the game at the 10:30 mark in the first period as Justin Bristol and Luke Allmendinger combined on the score. But Roe was quick to answer for Havre, scoring two minutes later to tie the game. Roe's goal was assisted by Boyce.

The Blues scored their final goal of the game at the 9:07 mark in the first period with Allmendinger and Shane Strozzi combining for the score. Boyce answered back with an unassisted goal at the 3:14 mark to end the first period with a 2-2 tie.

Neither team scored in the second period, but the Ice Hawks came out strong in the third, scoring three goals before the 8:05 mark to win the game. Erickson started the scoring spree with an unassisted goal and was followed by Roe and Boyce each adding one score. Boyce assisted Roe's goal and Erickson assisted Boyce's.

Spencer Stilwell had 21 saves at the net for Butte with Zentmire adding 14 for Havre.

The MVP for Butte was Zach Sharon and Stilwell received the Iron Man award. Havre honored Boyce with the MVP award and Zentmire with the Iron Man award.

Miles City 4, Bozeman 1 (1st and 2nd)

The championship game featured the Miles City Generals and the Bozeman Stingers with Miles City taking the title with a 4-1 victory.

Will Riggs scored two goals to lead the Generals with Jase Sanderson and Tab Fleming each scoring once. Laramie Davies assisted all four goals with Fleming combining on Sanderson's.

Dusty Batters was solid at the net for the Stingers, saving 13 shots. Miles City's Josh Anderson had 14 saves as goalie.

Davies walked away with the MVP award for Miles City with Anderson winning the Iron Man award. Marcus Lenart earned the MVP award for Bozeman with Batters receiving the Iron Man award.

Havre 11, Gallatin Valley 1

In preparation for the state tournament, the Ice Hawks wrapped up their regular season in Havre with two wins over the Gallatin Valley Freeze, starting a streak of five straight.

This was the first meeeting of the year for the two teams and Havre showed its dominance early. The first game was an 11-1 victory for the Havre team. Havre scored six goals on 24 shots in the first period.

The Freeze came back to score their only goal in the second period, but the Ice Hawks added two more goals in the same period and three in the final period.

The Havre team was led by Roe with four goals and one assist. Boyce also scored a hat trick with three goals.

Roe scored the first and second goals with Morelli and Williams combining for the assist on the first goal. Roe's second goal was unassisted. Williams scored the team's third goal, which was unassisted. Boyce followed with two of his three goals. Roe assisted the first goal with Chase Hanson adding the assist on the second one. Brad Hanson ended the first period with the team's sixth goal, also unassisted.

Roe opened the second period with an unassisted goal with Erickson also adding an unassisted goal.

Boyce started the third period with another unassisted goal, the team's ninth of the game. Roe followed with his fourth goal of the game, Erickson had the assist. Chase Hanson sent the Ice Hawks final score to the net as Havre came away with the huge win.

The Ice Hawks outshot the Freeze 63-11.

Zentmire had 10 saves as goalie.

Havre 4, Gallatin Valley 2

The following day, the Freeze and the Ice Hawks met up, this time with a little closer result.

Despite a rough start, the Ice Hawks bounced back to win the game, 4-2.

Gallatin Valley jumped out and got on the scoreboard at the 12:11 mark of the second period. Havre answered when Boyce took a pass from Brad Hanson and put the puck into the top corner of the net over the goalie's blocker. Gallatin Valley scored again with two minutes remaining in the period to take a 2-1 lead into the third period.

Through the first two periods, the Freeze's goalie stopped 22 of 23 shots.

Coming out strong in the third period, Boyce, Schilling and Morelli each scored goals to pull out the win. Roe had two assists on the game with Brad Hanson and Morelli each adding one.

Neither team scored during the first period of the game.

Erickson saved eight shots as goalie.

The Ice Hawks outshot the Freeze 36-10 in the game.

Havre 9, Bozeman 1

Traveling to Bozeman to face the Stingers, the Syntech Ice Hawks dominated with a 9-1 win.

Zentmire got things going early, scoring with an unassisted goal just two minutes and nine seconds into the game. Hartman followed 12 seconds later with another unassisted goal to give Havre a 2-0 lead. Schilling, Roe and Morelli each added goals in the first period, giving the Ice Hawks a 5-0 lead at the end of the first period. Schilling's goal was unassisted, Williams had the assist on Roe's goal and Boyce on Morelli's.

Bozeman came back strong in the second period, scoring its lone goal nearly six minutes into the period.

Chase Hanson responded near the end of the second with the Ice Hawk's sixth goal.

Boyce, Morelli and Schilling each added goals in the third period. Schilling had the assist on Boyce's goal, while his own was unassisted. Roe provided the assist on Morelli's goal.

Erickson had five saves in the game.

Havre 7, Miles City 2

Havre's second game of the weekend pitted the Miles City Generals against the Ice Hawks, with the Ice Hawks winning 7-2.

Williams opened the scoring with an unassisted breakaway goal in the first period. Miles City answered Williams' goal to tie the score at 1-all at the end of the first period.

Erickson scored twice in the second period with the goals assisted by Schilling and Hartman. The Generals also scored one goal in the period, giving Havre a 3-2 lead going into the third period.

The Ice Hawks broke the game open in the third period with four unanswered goals. Erickson started the third with an unassisted goal, with Schilling and Erickson combining on the next score. Roe and Boyce scored the final two goals. Boyce and Morelli combined for the assist on Roe's goal with Williams assisting Boyce's goal.

Erickson moved out of the net to have a strong offensive game with a hat trick and an assist, having a part of four of the seven Havre goals.

Once again, Zentmire had a strong showing in the net, stopping numerous Miles City scoring opportunities. Also contributing to the win was the tough defensive pressure of Linquist, Schilling, Chase Hanson, Boyce and Brad Hanson.

Havre 6, Bozeman 1

Facing the Bozeman Stingers, the Havre team ended its regular season with a near shutout, 6-1.

This was the third game of a three-game weekend road trip for the Syntech Ice Hawks. Havre finished its regular season with a league record of nine wins, two losses and one tie.

Linquist started the Havre scoring at the 7:41 mark in the first period, taking a pass at the left point position from Schilling and then fired a slapshot trough traffic into the net.

Bozeman tied the score with 2:08 left in the period, but 24 seconds later, Erickson took a pass from Boyce. The score at the end of the first period was 2-1 in favor of Havre.

Erickson and Boyce each scored a goal in the second period, with both goals assisted by Roe. Havre took a 4-2 lead after the second period. Erickson and Boyce each added goals again in the third period with Roe assisting both.

The hat trick was the second of the weekend for Erickson.

In a game where defense was key, Zentmire stopped 25 shots as goalie.
