Class A team defeats Class C for title at HIT

Led by Browning's Mike Chavez's 36 points, the Class A all-stars defeated the Class C team, 120-97, in the championship game this weekend at the Hi-Line Invitational Tournament in Malta.

Billings Central's Dallas Leslie (19), Ronan's Zachary Pitts (17), Browning's Leo Bullchild (16) and Butte Central's Christos Andredakis (14) also added finishes in double figures.

Dallas Howard, of Frazer, led the Class C team with 26 points. Lavina's D.C. Egge (17), Manhattan Christian's Tim Venhuizen (15) and Winnett's Davy Iverson (13) also finished in double figures.

In the consolation game, the Class AA team edged the Class B team 109-102. Helena Capital's Ryan Turcott led six players in double figures with 20 points for the AA squad. Fairfield's Tyler Palmer led the Class B team with 27 points.

The Class C team found its way to the championship game with an opening-game 120-79 win over the Class B team and a 111-102 win later over the Class AA team. On Friday, the Class C team defeated the Class A squad 120-106.

On its way to the championship game, the Class A team defeated the Class AA team 97-92 Thursday, and had a 118-104 win over the Class B team Friday.

Friday's other game pitted the Class B team against the Class AA team, with the Class B team winning 97-88.

Chavez was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, leading with 114 total points on the weekend and 60 rebounds. Harlem's Colby Fetter received the Mr. Hustle award. Topping the books in assists was Bullchild with 29. Huntley Project's Wes Morales won the slam dunk contest with Froid's Kyle Ryder winning the three-point contest.
