Bureau sets deadline for ice houses

The Bureau of Reclamation Montana Area Office is reminding ice fishermen to remove ice houses from bureau reservoirs in Montana by April 15.

Changes in weather and the melting ice around reservoir shore lines can make removal of ice houses hazardous. Removing them now will help preserve the shore line and will save the owners of ice houses the expense of a citation and costs for removal after that date. Fishermen are reminded that all ice houses in Montana are required by law to be marked with the owner's name and phone number.

The bureau requires removal of all ice fishing structures by April 15 to avoid situations where they are left too late or are abandoned on the ice and become hazards for the public.
