JOHN JERGESON, Obituary

CHINOOK John G. Jergeson, 86, Chinook, a retired farmer, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, from complications due to a stroke at a Havre hospital.

A vigil is to be held at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Chinook. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel's with burial in Kuper Memorial Cemetery in Chinook.

John was born July 23, 1915, near Lohman to Chris and Mary Jergesen, who homesteaded north of Lohman.

John and Elizabeth were married in 1939. They farmed north of Havre during World War II and north of Lohman for five years in the late 1940s. In 1949, they moved to a farm south of Chinook where they farmed until their retirement in 1981. Since retirement, they lived in Chinook.

John Jergeson served for many years on the board of the Farmers Union Oil Company in Chinook. He also served for six years on the board of Hill County Electric. John was a school board member for the Miewald School District while his children were in elementary school. He was active in St. Gabriel's Catholic Parish. By the time he had retired, John had developed a passion for the game of golf and he spent countless hours at the Chinook golf course.

Memorials may be made to Blaine 1 Ambulance, Sweet Memorial Nursing Home, MSU-Northern, St. Gabriel's Window Fund, or charity of one's choice.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, in December 2001; parents; brothers, Pete and Bob Jergesen; sister, Helen Burchard.

Survivors include his sons, Ray of Great Falls, Roger and Greg of Chinook; daughters, Louise Harvey of Missoula and Evelyn Schubert of Chinook; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucy Rosene of Woodside, Calif., and Bette Paul of Carson City, Nev.; daughters-in-law, Nita Jergeson and Barb Jergeson of Chinook; sons-in-law, Ken Schubert of Chinook and Roger Harvey of Missoula.

Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is handling arrangements.
