KouGars hosting invite track meet today at HMS

In hosting one of the largest Class C track meets in the state, the KG KouGars are hoping to continue their early season dominance today at the Havre Middle School track.

Over 20 teams are expected to compete at the meet, including most of the Northern C schools. Local schools include: Chester, KG, J-I, Rocky Boy, Box Elder, Big Sandy, Hays-Lodge Pole, Blue Sky, Turner and Havre's junior varsity. Other than Havre's JV team, only Class C schools will attend. Some of the same schools participated in Chinook's Invitational Track Meet last Saturday at HMS.

On Saturday, the KG boys won the invite running away with 147 points. Chester finished in a tie for fourth. For the girls, Chester came in fourth with KG in ninth.

Top finishers for KG were Roger Larson, Aaron Smith, both relay teams, Thomas Marshall, Robbie Gomke, Luke Antonich, Tel Sterner, Kyle Reynolds, Eric Engebretson, Forest Letang and Casey Crites. Chester's top placers were Travis VanDyke, Patrick Walstad, Nick LaSorte, Mitch Violett and Doug Anderson.

For the girls, KG's top placers were Kim Berg and Sasha Haugen, with Chester's being Michele VanDyke, Katy Engstrom, Jillian Johnson, Debbie Brown, Desiree Johnson, Jamie Graham, Chasi Buffington and Amanda Schlepp.

The following is the schedule for the KG High School Invitational Track Meet today at Havre Middle School:

Field events:

9 a.m. discus (B), javelin (G), high jump (G), pole vault (B)

10 a.m. long jump (G), triple jump (B), shot put (G), javelin (B), pole vault (G)

11:30 a.m. triple jump (G), long jump (B), shot put (B)

12:30 p.m. high jump (B), discus (G)

Qualifying throws:

shot put: 28 feet (G), 35 feet (B)

discus: 60 feet (G), 90 feet (B)

javelin: 70 feet (G), 110 feet (B)

There will be four throws and four jumps per event with no finals.

Running events:

9:30 a.m. 3200-meter run (G)

9:50 a.m. 3200-meter run (B)

10:05 a.m. 100-meter hurdles (G) timed final

10:20 a.m. 110-meter hurdles (B) timed final

10:35 a.m. 100-meter dash (G) preliminary (winner of each heat and then the next fastest times advance - top 10 to finals)

10:45 a.m. 100-meter dash (B) preliminary (winner of each heat and then the next fastest times advance - top 10 to finals)

11 a.m. 300-meter intermediate hurdles (G) timed finals
