WILLIAM ROBERTSON, Obituary

BREMERTON, Wash. William Arthur Robertson, 76, former Havre resident and retired engineer on the railroad, died of cancer on Saturday, April 6, 2002, in Bremerton.

Memorial services are noon Saturday at Pepin Park in Havre followed by a potluck at the Shanty Bar at Bill's request.

Bill was born to George B. and Frankie

Robertson on Oct. 1, 1925, in Kalispell. He served as a range finder operator on the USS Milett in Okinawa and Nagasaki for the Navy in World War II, and was discharged out at Bremerton. Bill moved to Havre and worked for the railroad.

On Sept. 7, 1948, he married Clara Louise Laugen of Havre. They had five children. Bill was also former owner of Shenanigans, now the Plainsman Steakhouse and Lounge midway between Havre and Chinook. After retiring from the railroad after more than 40 years on the job, Bill spent 13 years in Bremerton with his special friend, Sharon Kuepfer.

Bill's hobbies included golf, in which he won a trophy for a hole in one, and art work that included carvings, pastel and oil paintings, totem pole carvings, etching, chain saw carvings and bronzes. He also enjoyed softball, remodeling the family's homes, collecting model airplanes and cars, flying airplanes, hunting, fishing, camping, skiing and engine history. As a Boy Scout he took part in cutting the first ski run on Big Mountain at Whitefish with hatchets and axes.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Frankie Robertson; wife, Clara; daughter, Linda Lee Robertson; brother, George Robertson; sister, Marguerite Ketterer.

Survivors include his daughters, Carol (Jim) of Galena, Alaska, Denna of Gresham, Ore., Debi (Jim) and Penni, both of Havre, Wendy (Spencer) of Bremerton, Wash.; sons, Bubby of Kalispell, Bob (Marie) of Havre, Bernie of Olympia, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
