Engstrom, Pushka sign with Skylights

Skylights head volleyball coach Lisa Handley announced Monday the signing of two new recruits Chester's Katy Engstrom and Brandy Pushka from Angusville, Monitoba, Canada.

Engstrom, also a standout in basketball and track for the Coyotes, was a four-year starter for the Chester team. As a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, Engstrom was honored by her conference all four years by being named as an all-conference honorable mention her freshman year, named to the second team as a sophomore, and the first team as a junior and senior. She was also named to the first and second team all-state and was selected to this year's All-State Tournament Team.

"Katy loves the game of volleyball and is a great person," Handley said. "I know she will work hard each and every day. Katy is aware she has a lot to learn about the game of volleyball and has accepted the challenge. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of a college player Katy will become."

Engstrom plans on majoring in nursing at MSU-Northern.

Pushka is a 5-foot-7 outside hitter who has great quickness and jumping ability, Handley said. She was a member of the varsity team since her freshman year. Her team has received two silver and a bronze at provincials, where she twice was named to the all-star team. Pushka has been voted as a Tri-Star Athlete of the week in Manitoba and was most recently given the title of Game Star twice with her club. Her club team traveled to Las Vegas in February where they finished 67th out of 350 teams.

"Brandy is a quiet go-getter," Handley said. "She will bring with her a lot of playing experience and court sense. Brandy is a great passer and defensive player who will also add quickness to our team. I am looking forward to having Brandy as a Skylight."
