Havre boys first after day one in Helena

The Havre High boys golf team is in first place after day one of the Helena Invitational Golf Tournament at Bill Roberts Golf Course.

The invitational includes all Class AA schools and Class A schools Havre and Whitefish.

Senior Nick Obie fired a 1-over-par for a 72 on Thursday, placing him in third. Teammate Kevin Harada fired a 4-over-par for a 75, which ties him for fourth place. Jason Johnstone followed closely behind with a 76, Troy Toner with a 77 and Matt Felt with an 85.

The combined team score for Havre is 300. In second place behind Havre is Billings Senior with a 305. Kalispell is in third place with a 311, Billings Skyview in fourth with a 313 and Great Falls in fifth at 314.

Havre coach Keith Evenson said the boys score is an "outstanding score," and that he is happy with how well his team is playing.

"I'm extremely pleased with the boys," he said. "This shows early what they're capable of doing."

For the girls, who only took two golfers to the tournament, Julie Wagner fired a 96 and Katie Miller shot a 118.

"Julie came out and had a fine round," Evenson said. "And Katie is shooting consistently under 60 (for nine holes)."

The tournament wraps up today.
