Senior salute is Sunday

The 12th annual Salute to Senior Citizens, sponsored by Havre Public Schools, is scheduled for Sunday at the Havre Middle School.

Activities for the day include a free brunch for all senior citizens and a program of entertainment by students. Doors will open at noon and brunch will be served in the cafeteria starting at 12:30 p.m.

The salute was originally organized by Havre school officials in appreciation of support that seniors have shown the public school system. Despite not having children in the system any longer, seniors continue to support mill levies, teachers, student activities and the system in general.

The program will include vocals by the Flatau family, Heather Deady and the Havre Middle School quartet of Liz Handy, Michael Cook, Betsy Lee and Drew Ita. Havre High School cheerleaders will perform. Michele Hocket will play a saxophone solo. Susan Capdeville's kindergarten class will round out the afternoon singing "God Bless America" and "God Bless the U.S.A."

Masters of ceremony for the salute are Matt Welch, Matt Wagner and Peter Spangelo.

Art work by adults participating in Community Education art classes and artists from the middle school who participated in the talent show will be on display in the foyer.

Superintendent Kirk Miller will address the group, expressing the school district's appreciation for the senior citizens' support throughout the years.

Highland Park Early Primary School children made decorations for the brunch. Notepads were made by middle school special education students. Members of the Havre Middle and the Havre High schools HELPers will assist with coat checks, serve the brunch and usher.

All Havre-area senior citizens are welcome and encouraged to attend.
