Golfers set for Great Falls tourney

For the second week in a row, the Havre High golf team is on the road to compete in a Class AA tournament.

Today marks the first day of competition for the golf team. Today's rounds of golf will be played at the Meadowlark Country Club, one of the premier courses in the state, Havre coach Keith Evenson said. Saturday's rounds will be played at the Eagle Falls Golf Course.

All the Class AA schools are slated to attend with Havre and possibly Whitefish as the lone Class A schools, Evenson said.

Nick Obie, Jason Johnstone and Kevin Harada are competing for the boys team. The other two spots were open for a playoff Thursday night. For the girls, Julie Wagner, Katie Miller, Shannon Newth, Heather Bowker and Amanda Brock are making the trip.

The boys team finished in the top five at the tournament last year, Evenson said, and he anticipates another high finish for his team.

"They did very well last year," he said. "And, I expext us to do just as well this year.

"Our boys team will do very well again. We should have one of our better rounds if the weather cooperates."

Being on their home courses, Evenson said he expects both the Great Falls High Bison and CMR Rustlers to be the toughest competition for Havre along with Flathead.

The Havre team will be in Chinook on Monday, facing the 'Beeters. Both junior varsity squads will face off in Havre also on Monday. The Havre varsity team will then travel to Lewistown for a tournament on Thursday.
