Havre trio performing at Cut Bank roundup

The Timely Trio will perform for a second consecutive year at Cut Bank's annual Montana Storytelling Roundup tonight and Saturday at the Cut Bank High School.

The event will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. tonight and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The Timely Trio is composed of Dena Tippets, who works in the Hill County Clerk of Courts office; Mavis Filler, who works at Havre Job Service; and Kim Callahan, who is an audiologist from Dickinson, N.D., formerly of Havre. They have been singing together since 1983. Callahan wrote the "Havre Song," which was recently proclaimed Havre's official song by Mayor Bob Rice.

The Timely Trio sings cover and original music that includes folk, country, spiritual and popular hits from the 1940s and 1950s. They have recently produced a CD that includes songs about the local area, including a ballad about Fort Assinniboine, a song about the Eye of the Needle, and a haunting melody about the Missouri River. The trio's theme is "Our music will warm your hearts or tickle your funny bones." They also have two other tapes available, including one with the "Havre Song."

Also performing from the local area will be the Fox family of Harlem and Ken Overcast of Chinook.

Upcoming events for the Timely Trio are the Clerk of Courts Conference in Havre on June 19, the "Arts in the Prairie" in Dickinson, N.D., on July 16, and the Historical Society Conference in Havre on Oct. 25.
