Boys tennis dominates, girls team struggles at Great Falls Invitational

April 29, 2002

With decent weather in Great Falls on Friday, one would have expected the two-day tennis tournament to go as planned.

But sudden snow showers on Saturday changed those plans and the Great Falls Invitational Tennis Tournament was cut short after one day.

In two matches on Friday, the Havre boys Billings Senior 6-1 and Bozeman 5-2.

"The boys team would have been undefeated had we gotten the two days in," Havre coach Sam Dierman said. "Bozeman is the defending State AA champion and we got them 5-2. Bozeman easily beat the teams that we hadn't played yet. The boys were outstanding on Friday."

The girls did not fare as well. Billings Senior defeated them 4-3 and Bozeman 6-1.

"The girls team is still fighting with being consistent," Dierman said. "They just can't seem to put things together this year. The girls doubles didn't win a single match, and I don't remember the last time that we went to a tournament where our girls doubles didn't win a single match. Hopefully in the next three weeks they will get more consistent."
