Snow, cold weather force sports cancelations

For the first weekend of the spring sports season, Havre was not host to either a track meet or tennis or golf tournament.

That was unfortunate timing.

While Havre had decent weather Saturday, other areas of the state dealt with snow, rain and frigid temperatures. The winterlike weather caused many meet organizers to cancel their events.

Big Sandy, Box Elder, Blue Sky, J-I and Rocky Boy were all slated to be at the Highwood Invitational Track Meet but that meet was called off.

The Cut Bank Invitational Track Meet was canceled, affecting the Chester, Chinook, Havre and KG teams.

For tennis and golf, the Havre teams' stays in Great Falls were cut short as both two-day invitational tournaments were called off due to snow showers.

The second day of the tennis tournament will not be rescheduled nor will day two of the golf tournament. The golfers used the first-day scores as the determiner for the final standings.

The Cut Bank and Highwood tournaments also will not be rescheduled.

The Chester and Chinook tennis teams were scheduled to be at the Choteau Invitational Tennis Tournament Saturday. Information about that tournament wasn't available Sunday night.

The Rocky Boy golfers were also slated to be in Choteau Saturday. Information about that tournament also was unavailable.

Weather permitting, the Havre and Chinook golfers will dual today. The varsity teams will be in Chinook and the junior varsity teams will be in Havre.

The Chester and Big Sandy tennis teams are also slated to face off today in Big Sandy.
