Harlems Stiffarm one of four Lights signees

The Montana State University-Northern Lights have added four more recruits to their fall roster, coach Walt Currie announced Monday.

Harlem's Pete Stiffarm is the lone Havre-area player to sign. Stiffarm is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound tight end. He was named to the all-conference team as a tight end and is also a member of the Class B All-Star football team.

"Pete has the size and the natural athletic ability to become an outstanding Frontier Conference player," Currie said. "We are excited about getting a local player with Pete's size and talent."

Jon Lowry of Dawson County High School will also join the Lights. Lowry is a 5-foot-9, 170-pound receiver/holder, kick returner and punt returner. He was named to the all-conference team in two sports and was a Radisson All-Star Tourney selection.

"Jon is a natural receiver who has the ability to get open," Currie said. "We feel Jon is versatile enough to play either a slot back or a wide receiver at our level."

Chad Peplinski from Wibaux High School will add depth to the Lights as a defensive end. Peplinski stands at 5 foot 11 and weighs 200 pounds. He was named to the all-conference team and a defensive end and a center and was the all-star game most valuable player.

"Chad was a great high school player and we expect him to be the same at MSU-Northern," Currie said.

Steven Ahrens of Sunburst High School is the final signee for the Lights. Ahrens is a 6-foot-6, 208-pound tight end. He was named to the first team as a tight end, second team as a defensive end and honorable mention for the all-state team.

"We believe Steve will be an impact-type player in the Frontier Conference," Currie said. "He is just starting to grow and will be a very imposing football player in another year."

The Lights wrap up their season Wednesday with their final spring scrimmage at 6:30 p.m. at Blue Pony Stadium.
