Both Havre teams take top honors at Lewistown

While the boys golf team continued its dominance Tuesday afternoon at the Lewistown Invitational Golf Tournament, the girls team also came through with a big win.

Led by senior Julie Wagner's 95, the girls team grabbed a first-place finish. Wagner placed third overall.

The boys kept with the fast pace they have had all season, taking another first-place finish. Jason Johnstone topped all golfers, winning the individual medalist honors with a two-under par 70.

The boys knocked off the home team Fergus Golden Eagles with a 304 team score. The Eagles came in second with a 319, edging past Class C power Columbus with a 320. The CMR junior varsity team shot a 333 for fourth place with Park in fifth, also with a 333.

"The boys did just an outstanding job again," Havre coach Keith Evenson said.

Following Johnstone in second place was Lewistown's Nate Redfern with a one-under par 71. Three golfers shot a 76 for third through fifth place. Park's Jason Beffert ended in third with Columbus' Akkuachanga, a foreign exchange student, in fourth and CMR's Joey Zahara in fifth.

The girls team slid past Lewistown for first with a 424. Fergus came in second with a 425, followed by Fort Benton (428), Park (433) and Columbus (444).

"The girls are really pleased that they did so well (Tuesday) as a team," Evenson said. "It kind of shows that maybe we have a chance of getting them to state, which is a goal of mine. We did beat Livingston and Fergus on their home court and these are two teams in our conference that we'll have to play against."

Columbus' Jacey Achanaya won individual honors. Great Falls High's Carrie Hall came in second with a 90, followed by Wagner in third and Lizzy Summers from Fort Benton in fourth.

Individually, Nick Obie and Trent Normandy each shot a 77, Troy Toner an 80 and Kevin Harada an 81. For the girls, Katie Miller finished with a 104, Amanda Brock a 111, Shannon Newth a 114 and Heather Bowker a 122.
