Wagner, Obie earn medalist honors at Fort Benton Invite

Seniors Nick Obie and Julie Wagner each earned medalist honors Thursday afternoon at the Fort Benton Invitational Tournament.

Obie shot a one-over-par 73 for the boys title. Wagner shot a 95.

As the divisional and state tournaments near, the boys team is picking up the pace. Four of the five Havre golfers placed in the top five. Trent Normandy came in second place with a 79, followed by Kevin Harada with an 81. Troy Toner and Lewistown's Nate Redfern tied for fourth place, each shooting an 82. Jason Johnstone rounded out the Havre scores with an 84.

The Havre boys won the team title, shooting over 40 strokes better than the second-place opponent. The Ponies totaled a 315 with Fort Benton in second at 357. Conrad ended in third place with a 361, Cut Bank in fourth with a 367 and Lewistown in fifth with a 373.

Despite the windy conditions Thursday, Havre head coach Keith Evenson said his teams golfed as if the weather were perfect.

"They are used to finding a way to win," Evenson said.

After Wagner, on the girls' side, Fort Benton took the second-, third- and fourth-place individual placers. Kiersten Ritland finished in second place with a 98 and Shandree Nash in third with a 103. Lindsey Somers and Fairfield's Erin Lind tied for fourth, each with a 106.

Fort Benton captured the girls team title with a 423. Havre came in second at 444, Lewistown in third at 472, Fort Benton's junior varsity team came in fourth at 489 and Choteau in fifth with a 498.
