LOIS OPHUS, Obituary

BIG SANDY Lois Lorraine (Littlefield) Ophus, 82, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at her residence of cancer.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Big Sandy with Pastor Marvin Eldridge officiating. Burial is to follow at the Big Sandy

Cemetery. Fellowship is to follow burial at the church.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.

Lois was born Jan. 14, 1920 to Fred and Effie (Davidson) Littlefield at Big Sandy. She attended schools in Big Sandy, grades 1 through 11, then graduated from Havre High School.

On June 9, 1941, she married Alfred Ophus in Missoula. To this union, three children were born. Alfred preceded her in death on April 30, 2000. They lived on the Ophus family homestead near Big Sandy, then moved to Great Falls for a while. After living in California, they moved back to the area southeast of Big Sandy in 1948 when they purchased the MacAnally Farm. In 1973, they moved into Big Sandy.

She was a member of Bear Paw #100 O.E.S., Big Sandy United Methodist Church, Daughters of the Nile, and The American Legion Auxiliary. Louis also taught Sunday school in Big Sandy for many years. She was well known in the community for the many wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes she made and decorated with love for friends and family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Effie (Davidson) Littlefield; husband, Alfred Ophus; brothers, Robert and Dale; sisters, Lillian and Irene; son-in-law, Harry; grandson, Jason.

She is survived by sisters, Alice (Roy) Weaver of Lewistown and Gwendolyn (Howard) Wiederrich of Hardy Creek; sons, Glenn (Linda) Ophus and Gary (Eulalie) Ophus, both of Big Sandy; daughter, Joanne Kibbee of Big Sandy; one grandson; five granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.
