BRADLEE HAHN, Obituary

HELENA Bradlee Charles Hahn, 18, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, due to bone cancer at his home in Helena, surrounded by his family.

A celebration of Brad's life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Holter Museum of Art, 12 E. Lawrence in Helena.

Bradlee was born June 15, 1984, in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, and was raised in Troy for the first eight years of his life. In 1992 his family moved to Havre. Brad enjoyed learning and won the Geography Bee in the fifth grade. The family moved to Helena in 1995, where Brad attended Helena Middle School and then Radley School.

Brad was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2000 and began his journeys to The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Although he missed a great deal of school over the next year, Brad continued to perform with the Helena High Orchestra, tried to keep up with classes, and saw the world through his camera. Brad's illness never kept him from living his life; he volunteered at the Holter Museum of Art, worked part time at the Independent Record in the customer service department, and proudly received his GED in November 2001. He was recently accepted at Concordia University in Portland, Ore., where he planned to study history.

Brad had a great love of photography, music, and reading, but one of his true loves was driving his car, whether driving around Helena or road trips. Last fall Brad drove with friends to Seattle and out to see the ocean.

During his treatments at the Mayo Clinic, Brad stayed in touch with friends on his computer. The Ronald McDonald House in Rochester often became home for the entire family. Big Sky Kids and First Descents gave Brad the opportunity to experience kayaking, camping and skiing. Over the past two years Brad had the opportunity to meet many who shared a part of his experience, but his friends and family at home remained his source of strength.

Brad is preceded in death by both of his grandmothers, Shirley Perry of Wickenburg, Ariz., formerly of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Mary Hahn of Spokane, Wash.

Surviving are his parents, Doug and Lisa Hahn of Helena; brothers, Lowell and Daniel of Helena; sister, Elise of Helena; grandfathers, Charles Hahn of Spokane, Wash., Bernard Perry of Syracuse, N.Y.; numerous aunts and uncles and cousins from Washington, Idaho, Oregon and New York; and many close friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brad's name to The Ronald McDonald House, 850 Second St. S.W., Rochester, MN 55902, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Big Sky Kids of Eagle Mount or the Holter Museum of Art.

Helena Funeral Chapel has completed the arrangements.
