Boosters get new concession stand

A new place to buy treats at Blue Pony football games is in the works.

The Havre school board has agreed to allow the Havre High School Booster Club to build a new concession stand on the south side of the stadium.

"This will better serve the people attending the game, and better serve (Booster Club) purposes," Havre High athletics director Dennis Murphy said.

The club uses money raised from concessions at Havre High activities and tournaments held in Havre to support activities at the high school.

Booster Club president Dave Daniel said the new stand will solve many problems, including the club's lack of storage space. That becomes a major problem during Class 9-C tournaments.

"We're trying to store for three games a week and have no place to put anything," he said.

Another problem is serving concessions late in the year, he said. The soda fountain freezes up on cold nights, and the people working the stand have to repeatedly take the connections apart and thaw them out.

The new stand will have a heating system and good drainage, Daniel said.

Members of the club will do most of the construction, although the plumbing and electrical work will be done by licensed contractors, Ric Floren, district director of operations.

The building will be the property of the Havre school district.

Daniel said the club plans to immediately start removing the present south concession stand, which the new stand will replace. Once that is done, preparation work will begin and the stand should be completed quickly, he said.

The new stand will be handicap-accessible.
