Lipp lifts Northstars past Great Falls Electrics

The Havre Northstars used some motivation from an earlier loss to beat the Great Falls Electrics, 4-2, Friday night at Legion Field. The Northstars lost to the Electrics on May 10, 6-4.

Thanks to two key double plays turned by second baseman Dusty Heath, the Northstars got out of jams in the first two innings.

The Northstars broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning when designated hitter Chris Chandler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in Ian Spencer, who reached on an error. Spencer was sacrificed to second by Cory Junck and later moved to third after Doug Ireland was hit by a pitch and Bobby Bergren walked.

Havre added another run in the third inning as catcher Adam Jensen singled to lead off the inning. Jensen moved to second on a wild pitch and later scored on another wild pitch. Jensen led the team in batting with a 2-for-4 effort.

The Electrics tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on four straight singles by Adam Curry, Josh Calvert, Tyler Paul and Joe Fayden. Paul and Fayden each drove in one run. Calvert, Curry and Fayden each had 2-for-4 games at the plate. Brian Bollwitt led with a 2-for-3 game.

A walk and two straight singles led to Havre scoring two more runs in the fifth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie.

Eric Lipp pitched a complete game for the win. The loss went to Jordan Shine.

The Northstars had seven hits on the game while the Electrics had 10.

The Northstars and Comets will face each other on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in a conference game. The teams will play one nine-inning game.
