Havre High School Boys golf team

After a slow start on the first day, the Havre High boys golf team came back with a vengeance Saturday to win the State Class A golf championship.

The win marked the second-straight state title for the team.

"A state championship in general is just fantastic," senior Jason Johnstone said. "The second one did a good job of solidifying our place in Havre High history and in state history. Just to win is great."

The win came with a little revenge, as the Ponies knocked off the host team Whitefish, which stole the title from Havre two seasons ago.

The Ponies came back from eight strokes down to beat Whitefish by nine. Havre totaled a 616. Whitefish finished with a 625.

Senior Nick Obie finished in third place with a 151, followed by Troy Toner and Jason Johnstone with a 157. Kevin Harada added a 158 and sophomore Trent Normandy a 161.

The girls team also brought home a trophy, finishing one stroke behind Colstrip for third place. Julie Wagner topped the girls team with a second-place finish.
